Over the years, more and more women are complaining about their increasing body weight, particular around the mid-section, although they are eating fewer calories. They constantly feel sluggish and bloated. Their clothes don’t fit them anymore. This type of weight gain is not just physically daunting but emotionally frustrating too. It can even have dire consequences like alleviated risk of cardiac diseases, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure and uterine and breast cancer.
It is very important to be particular about ways to lose weight. There are some strategies that can help women to lose pounds as well as maintain their ideal body weight in a healthy manner, without any gimmicks or unbalanced diets.
Don’t Spread your Waistline, Spread your Meals
After 20, metabolism tends to slow down at the rate of 10% every 10 years. This clearly explains why you cannot keep eating the same amount of food as you did earlier. Even if your workout and activity level are the same, eating the same quantity of foods will add pounds to your body.
However, it is possible to reverse your metabolic decline by making some changes to your food habits. Follow the pattern of 5 to 6 smaller meals per day rather than 3 large meals to keep your metabolism rocking without accumulating extra reserves. Eating big meals is never a great idea as your body will only use some of the food, depending on the level of activities, and the rest will be stockpiled as fat. Ideally, you should have a heavy breakfast, snack, lunch, another snack, and your dinner. By consuming smaller meals, your body will not store fat because it keeps burning.
Combining Drink and Food is A Recipe for Disaster
With food you can lavish your body with nutrition. However, you must make sure that your body can utilize the food you consume.
Drink fluids between your meals so as to avoid diluting the gastric juices during your meals. Consuming drinks and beverages during meals can weaken the functions of stomach and spleen, thereby interfering with the function of these organs to digest and absorb nutrients. Wait for at least half an hour after your meals before drinking fluids. Between your meals you can sip water, herbal teas, fruit and vegetable juices; however, avoid sodas, coffee and other beverages. Likewise, you can eat fruits containing higher amount of water content between your meals, like melons.
You should follow a formalized workout or exercise program to lose weight. If you are overwhelmed with the idea of an activity regime, try to alter the way you think. Exercise can be invigorating. Take a break and exercise at home. Walk up the stairs, march or jog without moving out, go for an evening walk, wash your car, and volunteer for a walkathon.
It isn’t impossible to lose weight simply because you are aging. It’s only in your mind. If you start thinking positively even today, it can make a big difference to your body weight.
